Day 1 - London to Bangkok
Non-stop flight with British Airways
Transfer to hotel to rest after the long flight
Day 2 - Experience Bangkok
A taste of the orient! Traffic, sights and smells.
The Royal Palaces a must!
Day 3 - A bus journey from the capital of Thailand
to Siem Reap in Cambodia
A full day bus journey with border crossing into Cambodia. Stay at VentureCo's
favourite oriental guest house with our very own Mr Sunhour and family
as host. This is home for the next 2 weeks.
Day 4 - An orientation learning about the projects
and meeting everybody involved
A day of orientation. Meet our project partners, the Buddhist monks at
the Wat Damnak Pagoda. Introduction to Khmer culture and the chance to
pick up a few words of the local language! Group project briefing and
division of tasks. Finalise the project work plan, draw up work rotas,
train in the use of any hand tools.
Days 5 - 7 - Start work on phase one of the Siem
Reap projects, Cambodia
Present the project aims to the local population and meet the project
beneficiaries. It takes three days to construct a house!
Day 8 - Learn about the local families and cultures
in around Siem Reap
Visit the Tonle Sap Lake communities
Days 9 - 11 - Start work on phase two of the Siem
Reap projects, Cambodia
Start work on second house, learn from the experience of building the
first house and make the second one even better!
Day 12 - Complete the project and leave the Monks
at Wat Damnak
Project conclusion, food distribution to the villages and farewell to
the Monks at Wat Damnak
Days 13 - 14 - Spend two days exploring the vast
temples of the incredible Angkor Wat
Exploration of the mighty temples at Angkor Wat. This vast complex of
temples was constructed in the 12th Century and has attracted explorers
ever since. The French adventurer Henri Mahout "discovered"
the site in 1860 after centuries of neglect and Lara Croft Tomb Raider
made the place her own in the 21st Century!
Day 15 - Use the waterways to leave Siem Reap and
enter Phnom Penh
River boat across the Tonle Sap Lake and onto the Mekong River to enter
Pnomh Penh.
Day 16 - Explore Phnom Penh and the remarkable
sights and sounds of Cambodia's past
Visit the sights that describe the horrors and splendour of Cambodia's
past. The killings fields of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge and the Royal Palace
of the ruling dynasty. Appreciate the French flavour of this busy capital
and enjoy baguettes and café au lait on the pavement cafes.
Day 17 - Mekong Expedition
Phnom Penh to Kampong Chan
Day 18 - Mekong Expedition
Kampong Chan to Kratie. The 100 column pagoda and the fresh water Irriwaddy
dolphins
Day 19 - Mekong Expedition
Kratie to Rataanakiri
Days 20 - 22 - Mekong Expedition
Rataanakiri Hill Tribe Trek
Day 23: Mekong Expedition
Rataanakiri to Phnom Penh
Days 24 - 26 - Arrive in Sihanoukville for a well
earned rest and relaxation by the coast
Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville - white beaches and warm water for post expedition rest
and relaxation.
Sihanoukville - boats trips and snorkelling on the inshore reefs.
Days 27 - 30 - Heading Home via Phnom Penh, Bangkok
and a flight to London
Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh; Final night in-country, watch Apsara dancing
and folklore singing.
Phnom Penh to Bangkok to London
