Bridget Moriarty | VC Leader

VentureCo Team - Bridget MoriartyHISTORY/ACHIVEMENTS/TRAVEL

I’m Irish, but left when I was 17, to go to England, to work and Study. I was a Social Worker in London for many years, but took off to South America to learn Spanish, Salsa and climb a few mountains. I spent over 4 years there and love the place.

I have travelled in South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, South Africa and Europe. I am currently in India, which is totally different; I am now hooked on Yoga and I’m in a country which loves tea even more than I do, what more could I ask for!?

BEST THING ABOUT BEING A VC LEADER

Lots of laughter, the chance to drink tea, do crochet, travel a lot, and work a little. In addition, friends are made for life and I can’t think of anything more enjoyable than spending 4 months passing my knowledge, wisdom and songs onto others. It beats working in an office in London, that’s for sure.

I get to keep up my Spanish, try other languages and fail miserably, meet some great people from abroad, we get to see a side of the countries that many travellers don’t, because of the projects we do. In a nut shell, there's very little about it that isn’t enjoyable except for the accounts.

FAVOURITE PROJECT

Building a bridge in the Sangay National Park, Ecuador. Nine of us living, eating and sleeping in a great hut, with amazing views, great walks, a physically hard project, but very successful on completion. The place was mesmerising, the local people were lovely, and one of the many highlights was all the knitting we did in the evenings, I even managed to make a poncho, with matching hat. All in all a truly lovely 4 weeks. Except for the frankfurters.

FAVOURITE VENTURECO TREK

Torres Del Paine, Patagonia. It's hard, long, physically very demanding, but with views to boot and a great sense of achievement at the end, not to mention the best glass or 2 of wine. Some amazing camp sites, glaciers, ice climbing, ice cold showers, and long bright evenings to sit back and admire the surroundings. Worth the heavy rucksack.
