Kat Davis | VC Leader

VentureCo Team - Kat DavisHISTORY/ACHIEVEMENTS/TRAVEL

After a year at Art College I went on an expedition to Ghana; I realised there was more to life! As soon as I had the money I headed next to Central America and Belize. I spent six months volunteering for a locally run Conservation Organisation, working in the jungle and helping with all the research projects. I was offered a job for the following year, filling in time travelling; an epic trip of Mexico down to the Panama Canal (and back up again....by bus). I returned to Belize for over a year, working ´in da bush´ as assistant manager of ´Wildtracks´. I worked with Ventureco students on three projects over the time I was out there, one pond hide, Manatee pools for rehabilitation and one field base (and very comfortable it was too!) I love the projects!

BEST THING ABOUT BEING A VC LEADER

The best thing about being a Venture co leader is introducing young people to different cultures and different ways of life. Giving the guys the opportunity to live and work in a community during the project phase and teaching them that the builder may well be half an hour late but working on local time that's early!

FAVOURITE PROJECT

Really enjoyed the AGRUPAR project close to Quito, it was based in a small suburb, close enough to the family stays in Quito but far enough away from the centre to see how the less affluent people live. It had everything, teaching, constructing and for the arty people, a giant mural of the world. Plenty of kids wandering around to keep entertained and gigantic games of football.

FAVOURITE TREK

Santa Cruz, Peru. (I get affected slightly by altitude and get really funky dreams about bananas and little men wandering round the tent at night)
